It came just three days after the USA issued new guidelines that will deepen its ties with Taiwan.
"We have a commitment to Taiwan under the Taiwan Relations Act, a bipartisan commitment that's existed for many, many years to make sure that Taiwan has the ability to defend itself and to make sure that we're sustaining peace and security in the western Pacific", Blinken stated.
"It would be a serious mistake for anyone to try to change the existing status quo by force", Blinken said on "Meet the Press" on Sunday, adding that he wouldn't speculate about possible US responses.
US Department of State Spokesperson Ned Price last week said that what is evident from Washington's review of the report is that it lacks crucial data, it lacks information, and it lacks access.
Blinken stood by the White House's description of China's treatment of its Uyghur minority as genocide, saying the USA needs to look at keeping out Chinese products made in the region. China has threatened that "Taiwan's independence" means war.
The White House on Friday said it was keeping a close watch on increased Chinese military activities in the Taiwan Strait, and called Beijing's actions potentially destabilising.
China has never renounced the use of force to bring the island under its control.
