We are looking in detail at how we can support and safeguard all those who benefit from free school meals and children with additional learning needs.
And he insisted the free meals children get at school would be protected for students who are no longer going, as he explained: "Gavin Williamson, Education Secretary, has a plan to make sure that parents with kids who are eligible for free school meals get the compensation or the treatment they need, one way or another".
The revelation came during a briefing when Ms Sturgeon said that it is "inevitable" that schools will shut and they will probably be shut by Friday, warning that she "cannot guarantee" they will reopen before the summer.
"I have discussed my intentions with the Leader of the Welsh Local Government Association, Andrew Morgan, who reflects the views of local authorities".
Already a number of schools across the region have been closed due to what has been described as "unforeseen circumstances".
Welsh Government is working with "key stakeholders" to look at what this will look like for both education and childcare settings, including Flying Start.
"This position will of course evolve over the coming days and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis".
One of the critical decisions the government will seek to clarify "with urgency" is that of the forthcoming examinations. I am also working with Qualifications Wales and the WJEC about this year's exam series.
"In line with all education ministers across the UK, I will be making a further announcement shortly".
She said the move was necessary because schools have now lost too many staff to continue as normal. "We welcome the preparedness now to lead and not follow".
"The announcement I am making today will help ensure an orderly closure for schools so that they have the time to prepare".
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said further decisions on school closures were "to be taken imminently".
The House should expect decisions to be taken imminently on schools.
