United States tariffs on a record $7.5 billion in European goods are set to hit at midnight (0400 GMT), after the World Trade Organization agreed with Washington's longstanding argument that Airbus receives unfair government subsidies, which hurts American competitor Boeing.
French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire criticized the move hours before the tariffs were due to come into effect.Читайте также: British family decries treatment by USA after border crossing near Vancouver
The World Trade Organization on Monday ruled that the subsidies on both sides are illegal. "We, Europeans, will take similar sanctions in a few months, maybe even harsher ones - within the framework of the WTO - to retaliate to these U.S. sanctions", he said. The global trade body ruled that the subsidies have hindered sales by USA plane maker Boeing, in violation of WTO rules.
The decision, made by the WTO on Wednesday, October 2, "demonstrates that massive European Union corporate welfare has cost American aerospace companies hundreds of billions of dollars in lost revenue over the almost 15 years of litigation", according to the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) in a statement on the matter.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
