The officials are being shown the various exits around the tunnel by some of the youth and residents of the area.
The image maker in charge of the state police command, Olarinde Famous Cole, confirmed "an incident" around the area and added that "the Lagos State police command is on ground at the scene of the discovery".
Under the canal, the soldiers were said to have found different body parts and many routes linking to the canal. He also assured that the three arrested suspects would be interrogated and tried accordingly.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni speaking to Channels Television, gave an account of how the residents meted out jungle justice on the suspects before the Police could intervene.
The atmosphere is tense as police and other security operatives have been overpowered. Some fearless passers-by and members of the Odua People's Congress, OPC, who reportedly went for the victim's rescue, apprehended one of the captors and set him ablaze.
The search is still ongoing and atmosphere tense.
"It took several hours to dig into the den where the suspects had hidden their victims; about two persons were rescued and taken to the hospital, as they appeared unconscious". He was subsequently caught by the mob.
The mob was bent on setting him ablaze too, but he was rescued by soldiers who took him away.
The first suspect who was burnt by the mob is yet to be evacuated.
The den, located beside the main road at the popular Obadeyi bus-stop, Ijaiye, was exposed by a female sweeper who heard the horrific cry of a victim screaming for help.
Apart from the two burnt suspects, two others were choked out of the den but were prevented from being lyched by policemen and soldiers who took them away amid heavy protest from the mob.
Fire fighters have also arrived to control the fire, while pandemonium still pervades the area.
They are at pains to fathom how bad acts of such magnitude were being perpetrated at Obadeyi Ajala street, Ijaiye, in the densely populated area, under the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, though the discovery has provided answers to the puzzle of missing persons around the area.
The news medium reports that a kidnapper was apprehended while some other escaped after the voice of a woman allegedly kidnapped was heard. Though people were scared to go inside the hole for fear of what lies inside it, efforts by those who went inside, it was learnt paid-off, as two suspects were brought out but were whisked away by the police.
A witness, Adesola John, said passers-by overheard the voice of the allegedly kidnapped woman and began to comb the bridge on the expressway where the suspect was found.
"The woman has not been found and, as you can see, we are still searching".
Another witness who pleaded anonymity said there may be many victims trapped underneath.
