According to The Independent, a group of hackers who call themselves Mr Smith, leaked the major finale plot details to the world. The latest leak involves details of what would happen next in the episode along with how the episode will come to an end.
Mashable has chosen not to post the explicit details.
The hackers have demanded approximately $6.5 million worth of Bitcoin from HBO, which so far has seemed at least partially willing to negotiate with the group.
HBO has spoken out about the hack, revealing it's "a game we're not going to participate in, " as the hackers are expected to continue to drop spoilers. Do you believe that Arya and Sansa are planning to kill Littlefinger - especially after they find out that he was responsible for so numerous disgusting things that have happened to their family - and that their little back-and-forth last episode was just an act to lure Littlefinger into their trap? The channel feels that by leaking critical information with respect to the channel's shows, the hackers are trying to gain popularity.
"A pre-emptive measure of having a bug bounty program with even a fraction of these rewards would have motivated the ethical hackers enough to report possible vulnerabilities and avoid this situation all together", he added. What would that be like?
The Mr. Smith group told Mashable that it sold all of the data it obtained from HBO, totaling 5TB, on the dark web to three buyers for about half of the ransom cost hackers requested from HBO.
Then HBO Nordic in Spain accidentally made Episode 6 available on-demand early for one hour, where it was quickly downloaded and then shared on torrents, YouTube, Instagram, and many other platforms for anyone who wanted to find it. HBO put out the following statement in response.
Littlefinger, we hardly knew ye. This is very unfortunate and we just hope the matter gets resolved soon.
