Matt Gaetz spox resigns amid boss' growing sex scandal

Luke Ball, the former spokesman for the congressman, parted ways with Gaetz this week just as more reporting revealed Gaetz's alleged involvement with women who were recruited online for sex.

In a peculiar statement that repeated Gaetz's full name four times, the congressman's office denied all the allegations reported so far.

Ball did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment on whether he resigned out of principle, as was suggested by another news outlet. According to the report, which cited several unnamed sources familiar with the case, the women said they were paid for sex.

Gaetz is now being investigated over sex trafficking charges.

  • US Capitol: Two officers injured and building locked down

A Justice Department investigation into GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida is looking into money he and a political ally paid directly to women via apps, The New York Times reported Thursday.

Receipts reviewed by The Times reportedly showed that both Greenberg and Gaetz had sent payments to at least one woman during the period of these alleged encounters in 2019 and 2020, and that Greenberg had sent a payment to a second woman. "Matt Gaetz refutes all the disgusting allegations completely".

Gaetz is facing accusations of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl and traveling with her across state lines. "Matt Gaetz cherishes the relationships in his past and looks forward to marrying the love of his life". While he denies these claims and said the allegations stem from a bribery attempt by a federal official, Pelosi emphasized that if Gaetz is guilty his punishment would fall outside the jurisdiction of Congress.

Gaetz told Carlson that his family had notified the FBI about the alleged extortion, naming former federal prosecutor David McGee as being behind it. Gaetz said his father had worn a wire during a meeting as part of an investigation of the extortion claim, and that he believes The Times story had been leaked in order to thwart that investigation.
