"I would advocate against general travel overall", she said.
For fully vaccinated Americans, this updated CDC guidance relieves much of the stress that comes with incorporating COVID-19 restrictions into travel plans.
CDC also said those who are not fully vaccinated should avoid non-essential domestic travel.
With cases rising in some parts of the country and across the globe, the CDC "is not recommending travel at this time", said agency director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.
The major US airlines including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and other trade groups had asked the CDC on March 22 to change its guidance to say "vaccinated individuals can travel safely".
Unless required to do so by the global destination, fully vaccinated people no longer require a test, and they no longer have to self-quarantine after returning to the USA, unless required to do so by a state or local jurisdiction.
According to Reuters, the CDC's new guidance says fully vaccinated people would only need the Covid-19 test before worldwide travel if it is required by the global destination.
"Some are starting to make exceptions for those who are vaccinated".
"It is safe to travel without quarantining if fully vaccinated".
Some travel guidance remains unchanged.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced that fully vaccinated people can resume traveling at a low risk to themselves, according to a report from the New York Times. People should still wear a mask, socially distance and avoid crowds, the agency says.
Despite previous warnings against travel from the CDC, the Transportation Security Administration has continued to see a considerable uptick in passengers as the vaccine rollout grows. Transportation Safety Administration's numbers show more than 1 million passengers have passed through airport security almost every day in March. Additionally, they can gather with unvaccinated people without masks, but the visits should be limited to one unvaccinated household at a time.
The CDC did not revise guidance for non-vaccinated people.
