"It is critical my family and the other victims' families get the transparency they deserve". She was killed a block away from Lynch in a separate shooting.

"The officer was wearing a bodycam, but for unknown reasons at this point in time, it was not activated", Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate said at a news conference Saturday night. Lynch was brandishing a handgun at the time of the shooting.

The update came the same day Virginia Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D) said he wanted an independent agency to investigate the shooting that occurred during a chaotic string of incidents that left two people dead and eight others wounded on Virginia Beach's oceanfront on a balmy night.

The 47-year-old singer-songwriter took to Instagram on Monday to pay tribute to his cousin Donovon W. Lynch, a victim of a shooting in Virginia Beach on Friday. Harris was likely an innocent bystander in the second shooting, police said.

"Homicide detectives have now conducted interviews with the officer involved in the shooting death of Mr. Donovon Lynch, an officer who witnessed the incident, as well as independent witnesses", they said.

The police officer who shot Lynch did not have his body camera turned on, CNN reports. "Lynch was in possession of a handgun earlier on the evening of March 26, 2021".

Pharrell Williams is mourning the death of his cousin Donovon Lynch after he was tragically killed by police during the shootings in Virginia Beach.

Lynch, a Virginia Beach resident, was an offensive lineman for the University of Virginia's College at Wise during the 2017 and 2018 seasons and a 2019 graduate of the school.

Also killed in a separate shooting was Deshayla E. Harris, 28, of Norfolk. "VA Beach is the epitome of hope and we will get through this", Williams' post said on Twitter.

All statements and evidence gathered by Virginia Beach police will be submitted to the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney (OCA) once the investigation is completed.

"We are watching and listening for the department's inquiry into this shooting and expect a thorough and expeditious report", the statement said in part.

As far as the other shootings that took place at Virginia Beach, Va.'s Oceanfront last Friday night, three men were arrested yesterday in connection to the incident. "The community is waiting!"

The officer who shot Lynch has been placed on administrative leave, police said.
