Oscar Tshiebwe commits to Kentucky

West Virginia transfer Oscar Tshiebwe has committed to Kentucky, he announced Sunday night.

I am grateful for the time I spent in West Virginia and the lessons I learned. I am excited about this new chapter in my life.

Tshiebwe met virtually with coaches from North Carolina State, Illinois, and Miami before deciding on Kentucky. He will practice with the team this season and be eligible for the 2021-22 campaign.

Tshiebwe announced he was leaving the Mountaineers for personal reasons on January 1. Tshiebwe entered the NCAA transfer portal last week.

Kentucky was considered one of the top two schools for Tshiebwe out of high school before the 6-foot-9, 260-pound center from Lubumbashi, Congo, announced his pledge to West Virginia. He initially declared for the 2020 NBA Draft but later withdrew his name.

Tshiebwe was in his second season with the Mountaineers.

Tshiebwe is averaging 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds through 10 games this season.
