"When you get to the level she's at in her career, you have to simultaneously have thick skin as an individual while also being emotionally open as an actor".
For 24-year-old Zendaya, her rise through the world of Hollywood has been a meteoric one. With roles in the Disney sitcom Shake It Up, The Greatest Showman, Spider-Man: Homecoming and more cementing her platform, it was her performance in hit 2019 drama series Euphoria that really propelled the actor to global critical acclaim.

The movie was filmed in two weeks in a single location with a mostly Euphoria-backed crew, and also stars John David Washington. I did, like, maybe five days consistently. But I've never felt that, not from day one with Sam. "In this industry, I had to learn how to do small talk and stuff, because I guess I would kind of come off cold to people because I didn't really know how to start conversation", Zendaya tells the publication for its February issue.
"I'm just like, "Aw, thank you!' I feel like everyone at that moment becomes my auntie, and I'm just like, 'Oh, my God, I want to make you proud".
Very much in the style of Story of a marriage, Malcolm and Marie is a deeply romantic drama where a filmmaker (Washington) and his girlfriend (Zendaya) return home after attending a movie premiere party that he believes will be a great success with critics and audiences. "The evening suddenly takes a turn as revelations about their relationships begin to surface, testing the strength of their love", the synopsis reads. "People think you're mean because you don't talk", when really I just was too nervous". I've got to do this.' It didn't last very long. In my head, I imagined we'd had 1,000 conversations about it.
