Hyundai recalls Tucson SUVs over fire risk, asks owners to park outdoors

Hyundai's spate of recall orders has continued into 2021 with the most recent covering an additional 471,000 SUVs to the list of recalls which began around September of a year ago.

Hyundai is also recommending owners park their vehicle outdoors, and away from other vehicles or structures, until the recall repairs have been completed.

The recall involves Hyundai Tucson SUVs with the model-years 2016 through 2018 and 2020 through 2021. However, the AP reports the Tucsons equipped with the Smart Cruise Control feature are not being recalled. So far, Hyundai is aware of a dozen fires that have resulted from the problem, but has not reported any injuries.

Hyundai said Friday that the recall comes as part of a continuing investigation into the problem. Owners will be notified in late February to take take their SUVs to a dealer, which will replace a fuse on the computer.

Back in September, Hyundai had recalled around 180,000 Tucson units and had said that corrosion may cause a short circuit in faulty anti-lock brake system and that this could cause a fire even with the engine off.
