FA Cup: Tottenham sends match jerseys to Marine after win

It was the first ever time an 8th tier side and a Premier League club had met in the FA Cup third round.

Tottenham went on to win 5-0 with Vincius scoring a hat trick but that is only the same goal margin the London club beat Manchester United by earlier in the Premier League season.

The minnows were unable to host supporters at The Marine Travel Arena to watch Jose Mourinho's side with the match being played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic. Others climbed trees to gain any vantage point and blasted horns.

While Harry Kane was left behind in London, this was still a Tottenham side packed with global stars, including Gareth Bale one of the world's most expensive players. Yet even a trip to Marine saw Bale's frustrations continue with a free kick saved by goalkeeper Bayleigh Passant. We tried to kill the game as soon as we could.

Moura's goal meanwhile was his first from a direct free kick since October 2016, when he scored one against Nancy while playing for Paris Saint-Germain.


The central midfielder and England youth global made it a maiden appearance to remember just under a quarter-hour later when he stepped in off the left side and coolly slotted his side's fifth goal of the match past goalkeeper Bayleigh Passant at the near post on the hour mark.

Youngster Alfie Devine made Tottenham history by becoming the youngest player to make his first team debut for Spurs and also the youngest to score for the club.

And when the final whistle blew after a valiant display they went over to thank the fans peering from Rossett Road gardens.

Marine, who play in the Northern Premier League, Division One North West and are 161 places below Tottenham in the English football pyramid, said they had sold 30,697 virtual tickets to the game at 10 pounds each.

"The Cup run has been a lifesaver for us financially for where we are in non-league".
