"Umbrella Academy" Plans To Keep Elliot Page's Character A Woman

Her name and gender was legally changed the following September.

Justin Trudeau thanked Elliot - known for his roles in the X-Men series and Umbrella Academy - for sharing such a personal and delicate bit of information with his fans and admirers, saying he was grateful to the star for "speaking your truth".

Netflix representatives did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment.

While scores of individuals across social media platforms celebrated Page's inspiring news, there, of course, were those who raged in confusion about the actor's declaration.

Now Caitlyn, 71, offered her love to the star as she re-posted Elliot's original statement with a message of her own. His announcement immediately raised questions as to what would become of his Umbrella Academy character - a woman.

"Elliot Page has given us fantastic characters on-screen, and has been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ people", Nick Adams, GLAAD's director of Transgender Media, said in a statement.

The full statement read: "Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot".

'I feel lucky to be writing this.

Paige reflected in his gratitude for the support he had received as he embarked on this new chapter. I feel huge gratitude for the wonderful people who have supported me throughout this trip.

'I can't begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self'. I have been endlessly inspired by many trans communities. Thank you for your courage, generosity and hard work to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. "I will provide any support that I can continue to strive for a more loving and equal society". Page's personal life has always been an open book and a lot of people are well aware of their sexual orientation, coming out as gay in 2014.

Meanwhile the most important message of all came from Elliot's wife, the choreographer Emma Portner.
