In a year where nearly any movie could have a question mark attached to its release plans, it's a pleasant surprise that Jillian Bell and Isla Fisher will be making some sweet memories for the world to enjoy in the comfort of their own home. Swapping a glass slipper for a sneaker, Sneakerella is inspired by the folk tale about a young woman who lives in tragic circumstances as she is mistreated by her evil step-mother and sisters. However, it's instead taken a rather different form, taking place at Christmastime, and combining magic and the real world to ensure unmissable festive feels.
Godmothered is set at Christmastime, so Disney+ is clearly trying to capitalize on the need for an uplifting holiday movie.
Starring alongside Isla Fisher and Jillian Bell will also be Jane Curtin, Santiago Cabrera, and Mary Elizabeth Ellis.
Finding a mislaid letter from a 10-year-old girl in distress, Eleanor tracks her down and discovers that the girl, Mackenzie, is now a 40-year-old single mom (Fisher) working at a news station in Boston.
Tom Pollock (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Diane L. Sabatini (Lady and the Tramp) and Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters) were executive producers on the project, alongside Amie Karp (Ghostbusters: Afterlife). Turns out, Eleanor is a few years too late, because Mackenzie is now a jaded adult who gave up on the idea of "Happily Ever After" a long time ago.
Directed by Sharon Maguire and written by Kari Granlund and Melissa Stack, Godmothered will be premiering on popular streaming service, Disney+, in a matter of days on December 4.
