Amazon is launching a new version of its Echo Frames smart glasses and making them available to the general public. They were introduced past year as a Day 1 Edition product and were only available via invitation. There's support for calendars and group messaging as well. Amazon will begin accepting pre-orders now with an expected ship date of December 10th. Production and sales will be ending on Echo Loop, a $129 smart ring with a speaker and microphone.
The upgraded Echo Frames are priced at $249.99 and will be available for everyone without any invite. They'll come in black, horizon blue and modern tortoise, and although they have clear lenses, customers will be able to get prescriptions installed at a LensCrafters store. When it comes to its features, Echo Frames now offer "richer and fuller sound" compared to the previous model.
According to the official press release, "The volume can now be set to automatically adjust at the start of playback based on the noise level of your environment and your selected listening profile", which means users can now set volumes to automatically increase or decrease based on ambient noise.
There have also been improvements to the VIP Filter, which allows you to set what apps and contacts you'll hear notifications from.
Amazon has also said that the battery life of Echo Frames have improved and is now up to 40% longer.
Lastly, you can now extend your battery life even further by using Auto Off, which automatically powers down the Echo Frames when being placed upside down for three seconds. Amazon says the microphone is created to only hear the wearer's voice, and can be muted with a double-press of a button.
Echo Frames were born out of a more straightforward, audio-first sort of smart glasses.
The glasses can also be used to create reminders or perform actions via voice commands, including answering cell phone calls. Amazon has a manual for help with it. Customers who had the Day 1 Edition Echo Frames will have the option to overhaul their edges for $70 (generally Rs. 5,200).
