It has been 7 years since the conclusion of the TV series " Dexter " and in the last hours, really bomb news has arrived for fans of the series.
Even if Deb and La Guerta are dead and the mayhem has been for the past few seasons, I'm optimistic that the original showrunner might have a good idea to do this work, and I don't think Michael C. Hall agreed to that had a return to the role (lest we forget which one he was nominated for a ton of Emmys for) that wouldn't serve as redemption for the forever saved finale.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips said that the team doesn't want the project to be "Dexter season 9", but rather something different than what fans are used to. But it ironically makes a less-favorable list, too, as having one of the worst series finales in history.
It was announced yesterday that Showtime would be bringing back Dexter and star Michael C. Hall for a new 10-episode limited series.
Hall was riveting and infectious as Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Police Department, who's also a serial killer who curbs his thirst for blood by killer other serial killers who've escaped justice from the law.
Murmurs of a reboot or revival have been going since 2015 as fans longed for more satisfying closure.
The crime drama series called "Dexter" that aired on Showtime after it was launched in October 2006.
In the series finale, Dexter switched off his sister's life support, dumped her body in the sea and sailed into a hurricane.
It also stands to reason that Dexter will have an antagonist killer this new season, as he will face a rival killer that he is trying to hunt down in nearly all seasons.
What made the story so compelling was that viewers were drawn not only to Dexter's need to hide and fulfill his powerful urges to kill, but also to balance them with learning how to live the ultimate cover of a "regular" person. Laugh when they laugh, cry when they cry.
But the end of the episode showed Dexter working as a lumberjack. As it pulls back, you see that Dexter is on an execution table in prison.
Dexter will return with all-new episodes on Showtime, exactly 15 years after its premiere, in fall 2021.
