But Pogba's status with the club has shifted so considerably that Solskjaer knows he can rely on the French midfielder heading into Monday's quarter-final against Copenhagen.
'We're in a odd period and unusual times, but we've got to make the most of it, ' said the United manager last night. "We just have to make the best out of a hard situation".
'It's not football as it should be.
"That little bit of passion and that edge to the game is missing because the fans have got to be there. I have to commend our players, they've handled the situation really well".
"We went into this season knowing that the Europa League is a great chance for us to get a trophy, to get far in a tournament", Solskjaer said.
But Solskjaer isn't getting too far ahead of himself.
United are faced with a 13-day lockdown in Cologne if they go all the way to the final, not to mention the prospect of slumming it at fourth division Fortuna Koln's training ground. 'We'll cross that bridge when we get to it, ' he added.
"We have plans in place but, for me, it's only about this first game", he said. It's a knockout tournament and if you don't perform you're going home.Читайте также: Human rights commissioner calls for release of Polish LGBT activist
"I saw them lose to Chelsea that time", said Solskjaer. "Stale is a bit older than me and even though I'm turning grey, hopefully I'll keep the hair!"
Former Wolves boss Solbakken also allowed him to watch Copenhagen work in his previous stint at the club when Solskjaer needed some exposure for part of his Uefa Pro Licence course.
'Stale has had his ups and downs but he's come through again and he's leaving a legacy. Solskjaer won't want to be back any time soon, but he remains thankful for a season in Europe's secondary club competition after he was able to put together the building blocks of his new team - particularly 18-year-old Mason Greenwood and 19-year-old Brandon Williams - away from the Champions League spotlight.
Anthony Martial came off the bench to score United's victor in that one, and Solskjaer paid tribute to his 23-goal top scorer.
Ole, you've only lost one of the last 23 games - what's changed in the last few months? 'I like him being in between the posts, the simple goals. We know he can do worldies.
He spoke in glowing terms of the progress made by Anthony Martial, saying the French forward has "made huge strides" and is "physically at the best level in his career". "There's more to come from him".
"We have seen this season how important Sergio has been for us and, for me, David is always performing".
"We are in a unusual period at the moment, unprecedented, we've got to make the most of it and if we are able to go through to the semi-final and final it would mean a lot to the club, players, supporters and staff".При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
