The change will also be reflected on the next billing cycle for current members after June 30.
YouTube TV is undergoing yet another price hike as the company adds more channels to its existing lineup.
"We don't take these decisions lightly, and realize how hard this is for our members", YouTube TV's announcement read, in detailing the price hike. Just a month ago, YouTube TV signed a new deal with ViacomCBS to bring 14 cable networks to the service, including BET, Comedy Central, MTV and Nickelodeon.
Other channels that were are a part of that same deal - including BET Her, MTV2, MTV Classic, Nick Jr., NickToons and TeenNick - are due to arrive at a later date, the company noted.
YouTube TV, one of several virtual multichannel video programming distributors (vMVPDs) on the market, is raising its price today to $64.99 a month for new customers, the company announced today in a blog post. And before that, the service had cost $35 when it first launched in 2017. This is, per TV Answer Man, a 30 percent increase from $49.99, an unusually large one-time price hike by the standards of the streaming world. It's now more expensive than Hulu with Live TV (50+), AT&T Now Plus (45+) and the base FuboTV plan (as many as 109 or so, depending on where you live), all of which cost $55/month.
YouTube TV now provides more than 85 channels, including local TV stations in almost all USA markets. As of the end of March 2020, YouTube TV had an estimated 2.3 million subscribers - one of the only pay-TV services in the U.S.to register any growth in the first quarter of the year. "YouTube TV is the only streaming service that includes a DVR with unlimited storage space, plus six accounts per household each with its own unique recommendations, and three concurrent streams".
As we continue to evaluate how to provide the best possible service and content for you, our membership price will be $64.99.
With its latest price hike, the monthly price for YouTube TV has nearly doubled since the service debuted three years ago.
"We're excited to launch ViacomCBS' portfolio on YouTube TV this summer", Lori Conkling, YouTube TV's global head of partnerships, has said. The service also refreshed its Live Guide on desktop to include details on what's now airing and what'll be available to watch within the next seven days. On some new programs, you will be able to jump to specific news clips within a recording (similar to YouTube TV's "key plays" view for sports).
YouTube TV also said it recently introduced a dark theme to both desktop and mobile devices to help tone down screen glare and watch YouTube TV with a dark background.
