Luca is directed by Enrico Casarosa, who receives an Oscar nomination for his La Luna (short film showed before courageous in 2012). Viewers of the coming-of-age film will get introduced to a boy named Luca as he sets out to experience an unforgettable summer with his newfound best friend in a seaside town on the Italian Riviera.
Though Cararosaa didn't provide more plot points, he described how Luca's both a love letter to his own childhoods spent in Italy and a story about how the friendships we make as children can go on to be some of the most powerful relationships in our lives.
While the film is still very much in preproduction, fans can check out some concept art below! However, there's a bit of a secret he's keeping from everyone: Luca is actually a sea creature from another world below the water's surface.
Casarosa joined Pixar in 2002 after working at Ice Age company Blue Sky Studios and became a story artist for movies including Cars and Ratatouille. " Casarosa said in a statement. So along with the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature a memorable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca". It ended up losing out to The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.
The voice cast for the film is yet to be announced.
I have to admit, Coco was probably the last Pixar movie that I thought was pretty solid, and even then that film still had problems. The movie was supposed to open in theaters back in June, but it had to be pushed back, and as of this writing, it will still come out in November, as long as everything goes according to plan. Check out the first look of Luca along with a title slate and a glimpse at two characters from the upcoming film.
