NASCAR will be back at Darlington Raceway, the iconic SC oval known as the "Track Too Tough to Tame" on Tuesday for an Xfinity Series race while Harvick will try to make two wins in row on Wednesday when the super speedway hosts its second Cup race in four days. The event was originally scheduled for an 8 p.m. ET start.
The competition's Cup Series is also the second most-watched NASCAR event since March 2017, with February 2020's Daytona 500 season-opener garnering an estimated 7.3m viewers.According to Mulvihill, the NASCAR Cup Series now averages at 5.83m viers for the season-to-date, which is a two per cent decline from a year ago.
However, based on the current Darlington, S.C. weather forecast, rain is expected to be a much bigger factor for Wednesday's Toyota 500.
The Nascar broadcast capped a positive weekend for Fox, which also saw its coverage of the resumption of German soccer deliver the three highest-rated Bundesliga games ever on Fox Sports One. Wednesday's race at Darlington is scheduled for 228 laps, meaning it'll need to run at least 114 laps to be deemed official. The following week live sports shut down as the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the United States.
Sunday's race - and all scheduled NASCAR events through June 21 - are scheduled to be held without fans in attendance. "What a long 10 weeks it was, but what a great day it was for the fans, especially for Kevin Harvick, (and) for all NASCAR, for this sport to make its return and to do it in a safe manner and have a great race to show for it".
