"We were about to shoot down in New Zealand, so that got pushed".
Authorities in New Zealand, where coronavirus slowed dramatically after the government enforced a strict lockdown, have approved film industry safeguards for resuming productions.
Avatar 2 is aiming for a December 27, 2021 release, and three more sequels are set to quickly follow in December 2023, December 2025, and December 2027. Now, producer Jon Landau has announced that the shooting of the film will soon be back on track.
He confirmed that they are set to restart the production as early as next week.
Sharing a picture from the set of the movie on Instagram, Landau said the sets were ready and the team behind the film was excited to head back.
Franchise What is the "Avatar" series all about?
The first Avatar film released in 2009 and was the highest-grossing film ever until the release of Avengers Endgame.
It looks pretty fancy, but it's an Avatar film - what were we expecting?
Now, in Avatar 2, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Zoe Saldana will reprise their roles. But there are several new cast members in the mix as well, including Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel, Jemaine Clement, and Oona Chaplin.
20th Studios' Avatar 2 will be released by Disney on December 17, 2021. However, it remains unclear if the makers would stick to that date or further delay the movie.
Filming for Avatar has been on pause, but visual production work has been still underway in Manhattan Beach, California.
