As Louisiana continues to become one of the nation's hotspots of our current predicament, Drew Brees has announced that he and his wife Brittany are donating $5 million to the state. Let's do our part, keep hope, and get through this together.
Drew and Brittany Brees are owners or investors in the restaurant chains and food delivery service he mentioned in his post. Most of those efforts have focused on improving learning and recreational opportunities for children as well as health and wellness for children and seniors.
He named Second Harvest Food Bank, Ochsner Health Systems, Walk-Ons, Jimmy Johns, Small Sliders and Waitr as partners in the endeavor. Brees started giving back to the state then, and gets a lot of credit for helping to rebuild the city.
According to Spotrac, Brees has earned $294 million throughout the course of his career and recently signed a two-year, $50 million to return to the Saints this offseason. He's a beloved son in Louisiana.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees embedded himself in his adopted hometown after Hurricane Katrina.
"We were just looking at the sheer devastation and just saying, 'I'm not going to trust what I see with my eyes here, because my eyes are telling me not to come here".
I know it wasn't his ideal scenario when he originally signed but, man, @drewbrees has been so flawless for New Orleans and Louisiana. He's lived that out ever since arriving in New Orleans.
Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) said Tuesday, "It is still impossible to know exactly how long the COVID-19 pandemic will impact Louisiana, but what we do know is that we have more cases per capita than ever state, except NY and Washington".
