Mike Westhoff, who served as special-teams coordinator with the Saints in 2017 and 2018, was attempting to praise Taysom Hill during an interview in early January, but actually disrespected Jackson in the process.
"There's no denying that I loved my time in New Orleans".
"[The Saints] do have their quarterback of the future on the roster, too - that quarterback will be Taysom Hill", Fox's Jay Glazer said on "The Herd" on January 27. "As you go into free agency, this is time that you find out how people view you and we haven't gotten into free agency long enough to know how these guys view me and we'll just handle it as it comes". Instead, he wants to find a team that regards him as a franchise quarterback and pays him accordingly. The restricted free agent earned $645,000 in 2019 and coach Payton thinks Hill would be a hot commodity on the free agency market. And with Hall of Fame-caliber quarterback Drew Brees considering retirement, analysts have begun speculating about what Hill could do as a full-time conductor of an offense. He attempted 13 passes during his time in New Orleans and completed 3 of 6 attempts for 55 yards last season. So do I want to leave? "The fact of the matter is no, I don't", he said.
So it now looks like he'll either sign an offer sheet that pays him like a franchise quarterback or he'll take $6 million or so for 2020 and then become eligible for unrestricted free agency in 2021, subject to the franchise or transition tag.
When New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis spoke with reporters after the season, the subject naturally turned toward the three quarterbacks on the roster, all of whom become free agents in March. You have to find the situation to take care of your family.
