Kap sparked worldwide conversation when he started his demonstration in 2016. saying he was bringing attention to police brutality and racial inequality. "My protest was the culmination of years of thought and experiences, of learning and unlearning", Kap says.
Kaepernick, 32, has not played in the National Football League since opting out of his contract with the 49ers in 2017 once Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch took over as San Francisco's coach and general manager, respectively. "So I not only wanted to give insight into what led me to protest through my memoir, I wanted to make sure I was able to retain the ownership over my story in the process".
Kaepernick added that he hopes to use the partnership between his publishing company and Audible to "elevate Black and Brown voices who can empower future generations".
The league arranged a private workout for him in November that 24-plus teams were expected to attend.
"My desire to play football is still there", Kaepernick told Bell. "I still train five days a week. I'll be looking forward to it". The workout soon became mired in controversy after a discrepancy over a liability waiver.
In December a year ago, however, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell cast doubts over Kaepernick's chances of returning to professional football, suggesting the league had moved on.
