He's the definition of that. In fact, he was on the ice with his power-play pals when Elias Lindholm scored the would-be game-winner early in the third period as the Oilers tried to kill off Kassian's sentence. He wouldn't fight me two years ago, said I was fourth. The first blow left Kassian out of his blind side as he skated around the Calgary net with his head bowed.
"We cheated on a change ... and Stalock made a great play up to the stretch player and it's in our net", Ward added. The second time it happened, Kassian lost his temper, throwing his gloves off and attacking Tkachuk.
The final result of both plays? It was reasonable to think Kassian would get a major penalty for fighting, along with an instigating minor and perhaps a misconduct for good measure.
It was a four-point game, decided by a four-minute penalty.
Kassian told reporters after the game that he did not regret his actions, even though they may have cost his team the game. On Sunday, the National Hockey League confirmed to ESPN that there would be no supplemental discipline for the Flames' alternate captain, saying "both hits delivered on Kassian were legal, full body checks delivered to a player carrying the puck".
"If you're going to hit like that, you have to answer the bell every once in a while". Kassian said he could retaliate the next time he and Tkachuk were on the ice.
The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced that Kassian will face a hearing on Monday.
"It will be one of those games where I know he won't fight", he said. "(I) caught him there three times, so you think he would learn it after the first one, but if he wants to react like that, we take the PP, we take the game victor and we will go to first place.
Said Tkachuk: "If he doesn't want to get hit, then stay off the tracks". "But maybe it's my turn to deliver something, follow it a bit and wait until it is in a bad situation".
