Billie Eilish has revealed that she was "so unhappy last year", and considered taking her own life after feeling overwhelmed by her overnight success and falling into a deep depression.
"I was so unhappy previous year", she told King of 2018. "I was so unhappy, and I was so, like, joyless".
Eilish revealed that the past year had been a rough one for her.
When asked if she thought she would do something to herself, Eilish replied, "yeah", before elaborating about an experience she had while alone in a hotel room in Berlin.
Because of her newfound fame, she lost her old friends and kept getting recognized in public.
"I don't want to be dark, but I genuinely didn't think I would make it to 17", she said. And I remember there was a window right there.
Gayle then mentioned Billie's song "Bury a Friend" where she sings "I wanna end me" and asks Billie if that was a real thought in her mind. "I, like, God, I remember crying because I was thinking about how the way that I was going to die was, I was going to do it", Eilish told King (via Yahoo). "Don't take that extra step and hurt yourself further - you can't take it back".
Her mom, Maggie Baird, also appears in the interview.
And thanks to therapy and support from her family, the singer is now in a better place and able to reach out to her fans struggling with similar issues.
"I just grab [the fans] by the shoulders and I'm like, 'Please take care of yourself and be good to yourself and be nice to yourself". She fell into a clinical depression.
"It was", Eilish said, adding, "It also rhymed".
