Andy Murray and Serena Williams will play together in the mixed doubles draw at Wimbledon."This should be fun Andy Murray & Serena Williams are confirmed to play mixed doubles at #Wimbledon", Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tweeted.
Williams was also asked about teaming up with Murray after beating Giulia Gatto-Monticone in straight sets on Tuesday afternoon (Jul 2).
"That was just something that I was really excited about", she said, before referring to herself in the third person: "It's Serena, I always get excited".
"There's so many things to be admired".
Williams feels she has plenty in common with Murray.
"I think right now I have to have every match count, like 10 matches, because I haven't had a ton of matches this year", Williams told reporters.
Williams, 37, is bidding for an eighth singles title at the All England Club while the 32-year-old Murray is concentrating on doubles as he continues his comeback from hip surgery.
When Williams appeared at her post-match news conference after a first-round victory in singles Tuesday - which happened before the announcement that she'd play with Murray - she was greeted by plenty of questions about the possibility. Above all, he really stands out, he really speaks up about women's issues no matter what.
They have been drawn against Germany's Andreas Mies and Chilean Alexa Guarachi in the first round of the mixed doubles, which could take place on Friday. She's had some really good, strong matches in the past few months.
"I was hoping with the success I had with Jamie past year I was going to be honored to get asked, but whatever.", she said with a smile.
Murray, meanwhile, last played mixed doubles at an official event in Rio with Heather Watson, and at Wimbledon, it was in 2006 with Kirsten Flipkens.
She also has two Grand Slam mixed doubles crowns in her collection, including one at Wimbledon, which she won with Belarusian Max Mirnyi in 1998.
Next up for the former world number one will be a second-round clash against Kaja Juvan, a highly-rated 18-year-old prospect from Slovenia who showed off her potential with a 6-4 2-6 6-4 win over Kristyna Pliskova.
