"Look, I was with fans and so was Jeff". He's a good man.
I will be most pleased when they drop the new movie trailer with Sonic looking as cute and sexy like Justin Timberlake as he always does in the games. "There's a right way to listen".
Towards the end of his interview with Variety for Terminator: Dark Fate, which received its fair share of complaints and vitriol, Miller was asked about how he dealt with fans' anger towards Sonic's monstrous design, their pleas to redesign him, and pushing the movie's release date back in order to redesign Sonic in a manner that reflects how he appears in the games. Sonic the Hedgehog was ultimately delayed as a result of the backlash, so the gaming hero's appearance could be redesigned. "And I think the fans will be pleased". Since Sonic is a piece of animation inside of the mostly live-action world of Jim Carrey's villainous Doctor Robotnik and Sonic's law enforcement sidekick (James Marsden), the new design should slide right in, with its new animation still fitting in with Ben Schwartz's voicework. Fans immediately flooded social media to complain - not about the flick itself, but about the title character's design, which featured such bizarrely human traits as ripped calves and, well, teeth that simply can't be unseen. But giving in to immediate fan-backlash is a slippery slope.
As such, a flood of rather unkind comments hit the internet seemingly nearly immediately after the trailer was uploaded. People weren't sold on the new look of the character at all. But a door has been opened now, and there's no way to close it. Sonic the Hedgehog comes out on February 14, 2020.
