But prosecutors opposed the request, alleging that late a year ago Epstein tried to influence the case by paying US$350,000 to two potential witnesses. They did not name the two people who received the money.
"Neither of these payments appears to be to be routine or repeating all the procedure via the roughly five years of monetary institution recordsdata at this time accessible to the Authorities", the memo acknowledged.
"This course of action, and in particular its timing, suggests the defendant was attempting to further influence co-conspirators who might provide information against him in light of the recently re-emerging allegations", the prosecutors wrote in court papers obtained by NBC News.

In the latest charges, federal authorities said in a July 8 indictment (pdf) that he sexually abused and exploited dozens of girls, some as young as 14, in NY and Florida from about 2002 to 2005.
Prosecutors argued that Epstein shouldn't be allowed bail.

Democratic U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings, chair of the House Oversight and Reform Committee who has called on Acosta to testify on the Epstein matter, said in a statement: "Secretary Acosta's role in approving the extremely favourable deal for Jeffrey Epstein raises significant concerns about his failure to respect the rights of the victims, many of whom were children when they were assaulted".
The prosecutors said they were not bound by the 2008 Florida deal struck by Acosta, then the USA attorney for the Southern District of Florida, that allowed Epstein to plea to a lesser offence.

Trump, with Acosta at his side, said Friday he did not ask his secretary to leave and "I hate to see this happen".
Prior to the criminal cases against him, he was best for his wealth and high-profile connections.
