Charming Charlie has locations in 38 states, with approximately 75 stores in Texas, Florida and California alone.
Charming Charlie is known for its color-coded sections; all red clothes in one area, all black clothes in another.
Fashion retailer Charming Charlie will close all stores nationwide over the next few weeks and has already started liquidation sales, according to several reports. It has been reported that more than 3,000 full- and part-time employees could lose their jobs. This move is expected to allow Charming Charlie to "complete the store closing sales in a manner that maximizes recoveries for the debtors' estates and stakeholders", according to a court declaration by the company's chief financial officer, Alvaro Bellon. The stores are generally located in malls, street-level shops and outlets. The store, specializing in clothing, jewelry, and accessories, has stopped taking orders online. In April 2018, the company closed about 100 of its stores after its first Chapter 11 filing.
In its most recent bankruptcy filing, Charming Charlie said that its previous effort at restructuring its operations and debt "were simply not sufficient to stabilize the debtors' businesses and ensure long-term profitability".
In a DE bankruptcy court filing, Charming Charlie disclosed that it has only $6,000 in cash on hand.
In the filing, the company cited facing "significant headwinds given the continued decline of the brick-and-mortar retail industry". The company expects to vacate its stores by August 31, according to a court filing. Toys R Us, facing tough competition from Amazon and several billions of dollars of debt, filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in September of 2017 and liquidated its businesses a year ago.
