Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon four days later. "To mark this milestone of human achievement, we're bringing you new ways to learn about this moment in history, including new perspectives and stories that celebrate the lesser-known figures who made it happen".
"Almost 50 years ago, the Apollo 11 mission captivated the world as two American astronauts were the first to step foot on the moon, forever changing space exploration", said Interior Secretary David Bernhardt.
Learning about Apollo 11 just got even easier.
For example, Google users can now view the Apollo 11 command module in zoomable 3D, via the search giant's AR (augmented reality) in Search feature. For Google it represents another first, as it'll be the first time users will be able to experience cultural artifacts through AR in Google Search.

This content is available via the AMP Stories format and will also appear in the Apollo 11 Knowledge Panel in Search, Google representatives said.
The projection is designed by 59 Productions, an global team made up of artists, architects, and technologists that has brought multi-media events to the Guggenheim Bilbao museum and Edinburgh Castle, among other notable structures. Among the unsung Apollo heroes profiled are Rita Rapp, who developed the lunar journey's meal plan, and Margaret Hamilton, who led development of the on-board flight software for the missions and is credited with coining the term "software engineering".
The Smithsonian, NASA and several other partners contributed to another one of the newly unveiled projects - 40 new Apollo 11 exhibits on Google Arts & Culture.
