Duke's Michael Rothenberg (38) congratulates Ethan Murray (1) after they both scored in the second inning of an NCAA college super regional baseball game against Vanderbilt on Friday, June 7, 2019, in Nashville, Tenn. He comes in, and he didn't. Duke turned the game into a rout adding 10 in the eighth highlighted by three batters hit by pitches and a pair of runs walked in with the bases loaded. He walked off the mound and bumped fists with catcher Philip Clarke before being mobbed by teammates. That also set a Vanderbilt record for most strikeouts in a super-regional game, topping Carson Fulmer's nine against Stanford in 2014.
Price, who won his start Saturday night for the Red Sox, shouted out Rocker on Twitter.
The Blue Devils (35-25) also snapped a 12-game winning streak by Vanderbilt, the nation's No. 2 overall seed to move a win from its first College World Series berth since 1961.
"Candidly, Kumar Rocker was just better than us tonight", Duke coach Chris Pollard said of Rocker. He went down in pain with the sellout crowd silent while trainers treated him. Fans gave Taylor a standing ovation when he sat up, then stayed silent until he stood up and walked off the field.
Bryce Jarvis, MVP of the Morgantown Regional after striking out 11 for Duke, grew up a Vanderbilt fan in Franklin, Tennessee, south of Nashville. Paul stole second, then advanced to third on a wild pitch by Jarvis. Jarvis (5-2) struck out nine through seven innings. Pat DeMarco thought he had a two-run home run to follow only to be robbed by Lux with a great catch at the wall.
The Commodores backed Rocker with 10 hits, scoring a run in the fifth on Philip Clarke's RBI single and two in the eighth on Stephen Scott's sacrifice fly and Julian Infante's RBI bunt single.
