Amazon began dialing back Restaurants in November, when it shuttered the service in London - the only non-US location where it operated.
Just some of the food available on the Amazon Restaurants website - for now.
Amazon said Tuesday that it is closing its US restaurant delivery service, a 4-year-old business that failed to take off amid fierce competition from Uber Eats, DoorDash and others. The service was expanded to more than 20 USA cities, and then to London where the program ended in November.
The official shutdown date is June 24, Amazon told GeekWire.
Although Amazon is dismantling this part of the business in the U.S., the company still delivers food in other ways.
He said Amazon didn't promote the delivery service enough and didn't have deals with big fast food chains.
GeekWire reports that the USA division of Amazon Restaurants, which allowed Prime users to order from nearby restaurants, as well as Amazon's lunch-delivery site Daily Dish will both shutter on June 24.
"A small fraction of Amazon employees are affected by this decision, and many of those affected have already found new roles at Amazon", the company said.
But this doesn't mean Amazon is getting out of the delivery game: It is pushing more delivery at Whole Foods, for instance.
However, Amazon still has ambitions in food delivery.
As it is, restaurant companies are increasingly faced with the reality that delivery customers prefer their own services. Those three companies combined hold more than 75 percent of the US food delivery market share.
Uber listed Amazon as an Uber Eats competitor in its IPO documents earlier this year.
Grubhub's shares were up about 7 percent this morning, after the news was reported that Amazon will end delivery this month.
