Horrifying video captures a Texas police officer shooting dead a woman moments after she yelled, "I'm pregnant!" while getting Tasered.
However, the woman's relatives allegedly told police she was not pregnant, according to Dorris.
The shooting was caught on camera on Monday night in the Texan town of Baytown after officers attempted to arrest the 44-year-old over outstanding warrants.
"During the course of the attempted arrest, the female began struggling with the officer, which forced the officer to deploy his Taser", Baytown Police Lt. Steve Dorris said.
During a video of the attack, the woman can be heard saying "I'm pregnant", according to KHOU-TV, a Houston area station that reviewed the footage. A few moments later, the officer draws his service weapon and fires five shots at a prone Turner. Authorities said she was wanted on warrants for assault and criminal mischief, and the officer knew her from previous interactions. "You're actually harassing me".
"It's unfortunate that someone takes a tragic incident like this and starts posting it on social media". The officer, identified as an 11-year police veteran, had been patrolling an apartment complex in Baytown and spotted Brown. At that point, while on the ground and struggling with the officer, she said, "I'm pregnant", but also appeared to grab the stun gun and apply it to the officer's groin, Dorris said. Turner did not fire the stun gun but it shocked the officer when it struck him, Dorris said. "We would often see her, see her walk her dog around", local resident Raquelle Cuellar told ABC 13. "Our hearts go out to the families of the deceased, as well as our officer".
"The Harris County District Attorney's Office is on scene and assisting in the investigation, as is normal in these types of incidents", police said.
Investigators are trying to contact whoever recorded the video, because the person was a witness to the shooting, the lieutenant said.
The officer, who was not seriously injured, has been placed on paid administrative leave.
The incident is now under investigation by Baytown Police and The Harris County District Attorney's Office. Police have not confirmed that she was. It's extremely disrespectful for everybody involved.
