Three people were charged Thursday - including a mother and her daughter - in connection to the savage murder of 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, who had her baby ripped out of her womb after being strangled to death.
At a Thursday news conference, police announced first-degree murder charges against 46-year-old Clarisa Figueroa and her 24-year-old daughter, Desiree. Clarisa's boyfriend Piotr Bobak, 40, assisted the couple in getting rid of the teen's corpse.
The same day Ochoa-Lopez went missing, the Chicago Fire Department received a call about a newborn in distress at the home where her body was eventually found, authorities said. The baby boy is hospitalized in grave condition.
Police suspect the woman and others in the home killed Ochoa-Lopez and cut the baby boy from her womb.
Three people have been arrested in the United States, after a woman was murdered and her baby taken from her womb.
"Her mother told me Marlen was always affectionate, but that day she seemed especially loving". "She was a good person". She had a 3-year-old son of her own that she doted on, dressing him up and taking him to church every Sunday.
The two reconnected years later on Facebook and developed a relationship where Ochoa-Lopez would go to her for help as she navigated adulthood and motherhood.
"She told an extremely odd story", and officers "kind of knew where this is headed", Deenihan said.
Police have also said that several people were being interviewed, but Guglielmi wouldn't specify anyone's role in the killing.
Cecilia Garcia, spokeswoman for Ms Ochoa-Lopez's family, said it was a "blessing" the baby had been found, which has been called Yadiel, a name chosen by its mother. The baby isn't breathing.
Local media have reported that the baby is Ochoa-Lopez's.
The family said it has been told that DNA extracted from Ochoa-Uriostegui's toothbrush and hairbrush was used to establish a match between the teen and the baby.
The woman said she was located near West 79th Street and South Pulaski Road, an intersection just blocks from the house where Ochoa-Lopez's body would later be found.
The baby was transported to Christ Hospital, Chicago fire officials confirmed.
Police took at least three people into custody at the home on 77th Place on Tuesday, three weeks after Ochoa went missing. Clarisa Figueroa and Desiree Figueroa have been charged with the murder of Marlen Ochoa-Uriostegui and with the aggravated battery of Marlen's baby boy. The crime lab also found burnt clothes and blood on the carpet, in the hallway and in the bathroom.
Ochoa-Uriostegui's son, named Yadiel Yovany Lopez by his father and Ochoa-Uriostegui's husband, Giovanni Lopez, is now in hospital on life support.
The pregnant woman, who had been reported missing three weeks ago, has been identified as Marlen Ochoa-Uriostegui.
"I can't even pretend to imagine what that family is going through right now". That's when the two women first connected, and when Ochoa-Lopez was allegedly lured to Figeroa's home.
