And now, WarnerMedia has thrown some more chaotic fuel to the series' fire. The adaptation of the Chris Evans-starring 2013 science fiction film about a train circumnavigating a post-apocalyptic world had previously been set to screen on TBS. The pilot was written by Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and directed by Scott Derrickson. The new network also set a premiere date of spring 2020 and announced that the series has already been picked up for season two.
Co-created and executive-produced by Oscar victor Jordan Peele, The Last O.G. launched as cable's #1 new comedy in 2018 and the highest rated cable comedy debut since 2015. Known for its culture-defining comedies, TBS will be adding dramas to its programming lineup starting with Snowpiercer, starring Oscar® victor Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind) and Tony Award® victor Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Black-ish), in Spring of 2020. The show continues to be a ratings success in its second season, now ranking as cable's #1 sitcom and reaching a multiplatform audience of 23 million viewers so far.
"Snowpiercer is the ideal show to kick-off TBS' entry into dramas with intricate storytelling, stunning visuals and first-class acting", said Brett Weitz, general manager for TBS and TNT. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out in this riveting television adaptation. The series is executive produced by Tomorrow Studios' Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, Manson, Hawes.
In addition to Connelly and Diggs, Season 1 of Snowpiercer stars Alison Wright (The Americans), Mickey Sumner (Frances Ha), Susan Park (Ghostbusters), Iddo Goldberg (Peaky Blinders), Katie McGuinness (Dirty Filthy Love), Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Annalise Basso (Bedtime Stories), Sam Otto (Jellyfish), Roberto Urbina (Narcos), Sheila Vand (Argo) and Jaylin Fletcher (Saturday Church). Manson will return as showrunner for Season 2.
