After City's 4-1 win at Brighton & Hove Albion sealed the successful defence of their crown, captain Vincent Kompany and his men already had their eyes on a unique English treble by winning the FA Cup final against Watford next weekend. A year ago was a great achievement, but when you win back-to-back titles amassing the points that they have, withstanding that challenge that they've had from Liverpool, which was relentless right the way to the very end, it makes them a great side.
Liverpool's points tally of 97 would have won the title in 117 of the 120 previous seasons - based on points per game and assuming three points for a win in all previous campaigns.
"To get 97 points, to play football like we have played all season, we have to be very proud".
Klopp and his backroom staff had two post-season scenarios in place before the stunning Champions League comeback against Barcelona and will allow players a five-day break following their usual recovery session yesterday.
"We have to make the right decisions for next season to come back stronger, because Liverpool will maintain it and the other ones will be better", he said. Liverpool's one defeat proved to be a pivotal turning point in the title race, with Liverpool 7 points clear at the top of the league before the crucial tie at the Etihad Stadium in January.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said this season is just the beginning of a journey for his side, but in their three-decade wait to win the league, the Reds have finished second before and failed to build on it the following season.
"If I would start telling you all the positive things about this team we would be here until an hour before the Champions League final".
"Next season will be tougher, but we'll be stronger too". Because you can not buy hunger, the sustaining daily hunger that drove the greatest teams of other eras, ' said the Independent. It would be nice to get an award for the biggest development I can remember - we made a big step. "Next season, I am sure we won't lose anyone and, if we replicate this season, we can't ask much more".
"They know we are here and hopefully here to stay now".
However, unlike Manchester United, who ended the season as close to the relegation zone as they were to City, 32 points behind the champions in sixth, City have invested their money wisely.
As Klopp's team have managed to pick up wins despite not being at their best, so have the Cityzens.
"The biggest mistake, which with me is not going to happen, is believe we are something special, because you win four or five titles in two years".
