While his time as Batman was short, if Ben Affleck would have listened to former Batman George Clooney, it would have been much shorter. Affleck, prior to that, directed and starred in the Best Picture victor Argo, which George Clooney served as a producer on.
Affleck, who obviously didn't take Clooney's advice, could probably speak to this same experience, given the poor critical and fan response to his casting as Batman - and the even worse public scrutiny after the reception to Batman v Superman and Justice League. "I said, 'Don't do it, '" Clooney recalled about Affleck, who he worked with as a producer on 2012's Argo.
Clooney infamously played Batman in 1997's BATMAN & ROBIN which essentially killed the first incarnation of Warner Bros.
"I actually did talk to him about it".
But Affleck didn't take Clooney's sage advice. 'It was only from my experience, which is, you know'. Though, many, like Clooney, have praised Affleck's turn as Batman, despite the movies themselves being something quite divisive. We worked together one day.
Ultimately, the failure of Batman & Robin, in a way, turned out to be good for everyone. "But I took all the heat", Clooney said. "Now, fair deal - I was playing Batman and I wasn't good in it, and it wasn't a good film". Both films were commercially successful but found unfavourable reviews in the press, particularly for Affleck, who officially exited the role this past February. "After a few films and after the show-what you don't understand is now they're using you...to greenlight films, so you have to think differently than just an actor".
