The CW is expanding the Riverdale universe with spin-off Katy Keene. The network is picking up Keene along with a Nancy Drew drama from Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage for the 2019-2020 season.
"Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence", reads a description of Batwoman.
Here's what made it and what didn't; reports say The Lost Boys is being re-piloted, Glamorous still has a shot, and Jane the Novela is a no-go.
Katy Keene stars Pretty Little Liars alum Lucy Hale as the titular fashion designer and Archie Comics character, who crosses paths with Riverdale's Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) as Josie pursues her dream of music stardom in New York City. "Based on the Archie Comics characters".
Katy Keene hails from Riverdale creator/executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros TV. Their world is populated with kindred-spirit starving artists, including mysterious socialite Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) and Broadway-bound performer Jorge Lopez - and his drag queen alter ego, Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp). Silberling also directed the pilot. She thought she'd be leaving her hometown for college, but when a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation, and along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined.
The CW previously renewed its entire scripted lineup, including all five of its freshman shows.
