The official synopsis: "Gemini Man is an innovative action-thriller starring Will Smith as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin, who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative that seemingly can predict his every move". Working with Ang Lee, Jerry Bruckheimer, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger have been tapped to produce the picture, which also features Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, and Benedict Wong.
In line with Lee's penchant for pushing the boundaries of movie technologically (recently, his 2016 film Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk was the first film to be shot at 120 frames-per-second), Gemini Man used complex digital effects to de-age its 50-year-old star by almost three decades.
But come on, how cool would using clips from his old movies have been?
After spending longer in development than star Will Smith's career spent spinning its wheels, Gemini Man is finally ready to prove it's really happening. As the 25-year-old Smith says, on the brink of tears, "You made a person out of another person, then you sent me to kill him".
Paramount dropped the trailer, also bringing an extraordinary new poster, which shows the younger Will Smith facing off against himself. And it is expected that he will jump right into the Netflix sequel Bright 2 reprising his role as LAPD officer Daryl Ward who must contend with real-life Ogres and Fairies while on duty. Ang is pushing the limits to give people an experience in the movie theatre that you can't get anywhere else. That sequel is expected to shoot sometime later this year.
