"This class could be by far one of the best classes ever", Bresee added.
The Tigers landed No. 1 overall player, Bryan Bresee, on Tuesday to bump them up to the nation's No. 1 recruiting class.
There were Alabama, Penn State, Georgia, Clemson and Ohio State sweatshirts, but everyone in his circle quickly changed into Clemson garb as the high school junior unzipped a black jacket to reveal a purple Clemson shirt with a large orange. He pointed to his relationship with defensive tackles coach Todd Bates, defensive coordinator Brent Venables and head coach Dabo Swinney as a big reason why he chose the Tigers.
Uiagalelei could be the next five-star quarterback to call Clemson home, and he's already getting the recruiting pitch from Bresee.
"This has truly been a blessing".
Clemson has had plenty of success developing defensive linemen as Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell and Dexter Lawrence are projected to be first round picks in the 2019 National Football League draft. He is real genuine. It's a school I really feel comfortable with, and I know a couple of players there now.
The same situation might just play out with Bresee, too.
Last season, Bresee racked up 36 tackles for loss, including 12 1/2 sacks for the Hornets.
You can view Clemson's full 2020 class here. The other 11 are all rated as four-star prospects.
For the 2020 class, Clemson holds the top spot, while Alabama, LSU, Miami and Florida round out the top five, in that order. Dexter Lawrence was ranked No. 2 overall in 2016, quarterback Trevor Lawrence was No. 1 overall in 2018 and defensive end Xavier Thomas was No. 3 overall in 2018. In today's era of combines and exposure camps for the best athletes, that may be less of an issue, though his adjustment to an elite program like Clemson will certainly be something to watch. Swinney "was talking about that before".
"He always prides himself on developing the classes and has said he's never had a No. 1 class", Bresee told CBS Sports HQ.
