It went up against the Audi e-tron and Hyundai NEXO in the green auto category and took on the Volvo XC40 and Suzuki Jimmy in the design category. Last year's overall victor was the Volvo XC60, with the Jaguar F-Pace and Mazda MX-5 respectiely victorious in 2017 and 2016. The all-wheel-drive crossover was recently launched in South Africa, with prices starting at R1 687 200. In addition to the top award, the Jaguar also secured the Best Green Car and Best Design, further validating its appeal and importance in the current car market. Not only has it won the coveted 2019 World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year titles - equalling the success of the F-Pace in 2017 - it has also been named World Green Car.
The victor of the World Performance Car of the Year is the McLaren 720S, edging out finalists the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT four-door. "We started with an ideal, to move towards our Destination Zero vision; zero emissions, zero accidents and zero congestion".
Suzuki Jimmy won the World Urban Car of the Year victor ahead of the Kia Soul and Hyundai Santro. We started from a clean sheet of paper to create a new benchmark - the world's best premium electric vehicle, and a true Jaguar driver's auto.
