The clock tower is supposed to be off-limits for students, but the Times reports that other students heard rumors about people finding a way inside.

A dean at the school at the time told the Ram that students were subject to discipline if they were found to have entered the tower.
The accident occurred early in the morning before Fordham's annual Spring Preview event for admitted students.
Monfries had been "studying journalism with a focus on digital technology", the Daily News reported. The school said they will award Monfries a posthumous bachelor's degree.
