Toyota also is spending $62 million to boost production at its Troy, Missouri, facility.
In addition to the investment in Alabama, Toyota officials announced their plan to invest a total of $13 billion in its USA operations by 2021 with plans to add 600 new jobs at American manufacturing plants.
Toyota has big plans in America, and to accomplish them it will be investing $749 million into its various USA manufacturing facilities in addition to creating jobs for 586 people according to a report published Thursday by Reuters.
Meanwhile, Toyota made another big announcement in Kentucky. The jobs are not coming to the WSAZ region, but the company is investing $238 million in the Georgetown plant. Right now, the plant has the capacity for 120,000 units.
"Doubling our production of hybrid transaxles in West Virginia solidifies our facility's role in producing next generation engines and transmissions that will drive the future of Toyota's advanced mobility technology". "I thank Toyota for supporting these good, American jobs, and I am proud to stand up for our American workers against any trade policies that would make it harder for automakers like Toyota to keep Alabamians on the job".
"Toyota's continued investment in the Huntsville community is a testament to Alabama's first-rate workers and our leadership in the automotive industry", U.S. Sen.
According to the company, "the [Buffalo] plant represents a $1.4 billion investment".
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Inc. executives, local officials, and Gov. Matt Bevin got together for the announcement.
Toyota said it plans to add 600 new jobs at its us manufacturing facilities over the same period as it builds more vehicles and auto parts, including the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and the Lexus ES 300h Hybrid.
The company plans to invest $288 million in new 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engine lines, Toyota North Alabama president David Fernandes said at a news conference.
Toyota now manufactures the Camry, Avalon, Lexus ES 350, Camry hybrid and Avalon hybrid at the Georgetown facility. "This latest investment, the company's seventh in Huntsville, signals Toyota's confidence in our workforce and its commitment to continued investment in this facility - more than $1.2 billion to date". Toyota leaders say they plan to boost production of the RAV4 Hybrid in January of 2020 with a capacity of about 100,000 units per year. "The production changes announced today are centered upon our commitment to meet changing customer desires by diversifying the types of products our team members build here in Georgetown". "It is because of our workforce and statewide partnerships that Toyota has continued to grow and prosper in Alabama".
The Lexus ES 300h hybrid will begin production in May with an annual capacity of 12,000 vehicles. "By boosting our USA manufacturing footprint, we can better serve our customers and dealers and position our manufacturing plants for future success with more domestic capacity".
