When asked by another Facebook user if her boss, who is Jewish, has "dual loyalty", she replied, "I think I would probably have to ask him? Issues of allegiance and loyalty to one's country come with painful history", Sisa said in a statement to Politico.
Politico reported that Belen Sisa made the comment as part of a discussion in a Facebook thread in which she said that she supports Rep. Ilhan Omar in the Minnesota Democrat questioning "the political influence in this country that says it is OK to push for allegiance to a foreign country".
Sisa is not the only Sanders presidential campaign aide with an anti-Israel record. "At a time when so many communities in our country feel under attack by the president and his allies, I absolutely recognize that we need to address these issues with greater care and sensitivity to their historical resonance, and I'm committed to doing that in the future".
"There's definitely some buzz going around about it, but it's more a buzz of is anyone talking about finding someone to run against her than it is anyone saying they're going to run against her or contemplate it", Democratic state Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT) apologized and deleted a Facebook post about American Jews' "dual allegiance" after Politico contacted her about the comment, which has been criticized as anti-Semitic.
A Jew from Sisa's home state of Arizona pointed out the history of the "dual allegiance" slur in the Facebook thread - from the hangings of Jews in ancient Persia to the 1492 purge of Jews in Spain to Nazi Germany.
Despite repeated attempts to "help" Omar understand the problems with her comments, she continues to make allusions to "dual loyalty" in different forms, showing she's either incapable or uninterested in marked change.
