A 2017 phone conversation between LSU basketball coach Will Wade and a middleman tied up in allegations of illegal recruiting tactics features Wade discussing a "strong-ass offer" he made in the recruitment of a prospect, Yahoo Sports reports. "I'll be honest with you, I'm [expletive] exhausted of dealing with the thing".
"Dude", Wade continued, referring to the third party involved in the recruitment. Now I know for a fact he didn't explain everything to the mom.
Dawkins, according to the report, responded by saying, "Hmmmm".
"Wade: "It was a [expletive] hell of a [expletive] offer".
Wade also reportedly told Dawkins on the call that he made a "strong-ass offer about a month ago" to a the third party. Per ESPN, Dawkins had a payment plan of $500 per month until December 2017, then $1,000 per month until April 2018 for Sampson, who committed to and played for former LSU coach Johnny Jones, and later Wade after he left VCU to take over the program.
In that other telephone call with Dawkins, according to ESPN, Wade joked that the player, again believed to be Smart, would be compensated more than the "rookie minimum".
After a brief delay, Wade said, "I can get you what you need, but it's got to work". Via Twitter, Smart announced his commitment to LSU on June 30, 2017.
U.S. District Court Judge Lewis A. Kaplan sentenced former Adidas executive James Gatto to nine months in federal prison, former Adidas consultant Merl Code to six months and Dawkins to six months, per Law360.
This is the second transcript between Wade and Dawkins to come to light.
The calls also featured discussion of recruit Balsa Koprivica, who is a Florida State signee.
"The problem was, I know why he didn't take it now, it was [expletive] tilted toward the family a little bit", Wade continued. "I certainly get it". "I don't know what there is to address at this point". But I will say I'm very proud of everything I've done as LSU's head coach.
"Recent media reports regarding Coach Will Wade are without question concerning to all of us", LSU President F.
"I, or we, have never, ever, done business of any kind with Christian Dawkins or Mr. Dawkins".
