City supporters goaded Chelsea by telling them to bring Jose Mourinho back and, after such a hammering, it may not be long before Stamford Bridge managerial speculation is ramped up again.
Pressure is growing on the Italian head coach, who has only been in charge of the club since the summer, but Sarri himself was bemused about the performance on Sunday and in general of late.
Aguero's hat-trick against Chelsea was his 15th in all competitions for City and his 11th in the Premier League putting him joint top of the Premier League hat-trick records charts with Alan Shearer.
"I know exactly what he wants to do", he told a news conference. I am anxious about my team, the performance, but my job is always at risk.
Regarding his job security, Sarri says it is right he should be criticised for the club's form, but asked for any questions about his future be directed to the club. At the beginning (of the season) it worked. We need to understand why at the moment it isn't working. We need to understand.
"It is not easy".
While there is no doubting our chief football writer that this display was one of the most impressive, the line got us thinking about just what was the best outing from the top flight.
"At the moment we have a big problem away".
"They played fantastic football and we made a lot of mistakes".
It was Chelsea's heaviest defeat since losing 7-0 to Nottingham Forest in 1991.
This gritty success was the ideal preparation for hosting Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last 16 first leg on Wednesday.
"But I am not able at the moment to understand, because during the week my feeling was really very good". "This kind of person, these type of games, always helps to make our football better". He wants to try to do that.
"It is hard to describe our performance, it's hard also to understand". Mine was hard too. "People expect the manager to arrive, buy players and it happens immediately", said Guardiola.
The victory was City's third in the space of eight days since a surprise defeat at Newcastle, leaving Guardiola understandably delighted.
"If not Sarri, who else?" they said on Twitter.
While Tottenham are still outsiders to win their first English title since 1961, their ability to stay in contention, despite injuries to key players Harry Kane and Dele Alli suggests they shouldn't be completely written off.
