South Carolina's $2.12 average is 12 cents higher on the week and four cents higher than yesterday as well, and 15 cents more than this time last month.
Gas prices in South Central Ohio are almost six cents more expensive this week at $2.270 per gallon, according to AAA East Central's Gas Price Report.
"Motorists are seeing more expensive gas prices as a result of ongoing refinery problems coupled with crude oil prices hitting their highest level so far this year as global crude inventories tighten", said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson.
Regional inventories shrunk by 3.2 million barrels, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), to total at 58.6 million barrels. Eleven states in the region have averages that are 5 cents or more expensive since last week, including Ohio.
The Dearborn-based auto club says Monday that it appears additional price increases could be on the way and that MI gas prices are the highest of 2019. The number represents the largest one-week increase this year.
The state's highest average was about $2.42 a gallon in the Marquette area. In New York, the price rose to an average of $2.48 per gallon, while CT drivers are paying an average of $2.46 per gallon, both among the highest rates in the country.
The increased prices are expected to continue as the weather warms up.
