Washington's major European allies opposed a decision a year ago by U.S. President Donald Trump to abandon the Iran nuclear deal that included China and Russian Federation, and lifted global sanctions on Iran, in return for curbs on its nuclear program.
The Trump administration maintains that the 2015 nuclear deal, celebrated by European powers and the previous USA administration of former president Barack Obama, was insufficient because it did not include measures to curb the Iranian regime's ambitions in the region and its ballistic missile program.
House Democrats aren't the only ones up in arms over the White House's alleged attempt to fast-track "sensitive" USA nuclear technologies to Saudi Arabia, as Iran's Foreign Minister made clear in his Tweet on Wednesday.
In December previous year, Senators Edward Markey and Jeff Merkley said in a letter that Donald Trump's administration must immediately suspend any nuclear agreements with Saudi Arabia until Riyadh answers questions surrounding the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
China has long sought to balance its relations in the Middle East between rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia - one of its chief suppliers of crude oil - whose de facto leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is due to visit Beijing on Thursday and Friday for meetings with President Xi Jinping and other Chinese officials. Trump has stood by the prince, saying weapons sales to Saudi Arabia are an important source of USA jobs.
The foreign ministers of China and Iran met in Beijing on Tuesday amid efforts to preserve the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran.
The attempt to sell nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia is in violation of the U.S. law guarding against technology transfer, the congressional report states.
"We have inaugurated huge national projects in this situation", Rouhani said at the inauguration, adding that this comes despite efforts by the US, Israel, and their allies to increase pressure on Iran.
Iran has said its missile program is purely defensive.
