Anthony Joshua has confirmed that his next fight will be against Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller at New York's Madison Square Garden on June 1.
Joshua (22-0, 21 KOs), defended his World titles with a devastating knockout of unsafe Russian Alexander Povetkin last time out at Wembley Stadium in September in what was the Olympic Champion's fourth straight stadium fight in front of over 80,000 fans.
Miller is not recognised as one of the world's leading heavyweights but he has been in contention to fight Joshua for the past year, and the champion said: "The time has come to head across the Atlantic and defend my heavyweight titles in the USA".
Anthony Joshua's decision to fight in Jarrell Miller's home city of NY is "risky", according to promoter Eddie Hearn, but will lead to him making a "major statement". "Now he goes to the Mecca of boxing, the iconic Madison Square Garden, where the great heavyweights have performed - Ali, Frazier, Louis, Marciano, Tyson", Hearn told Sky Sports. "I will leave nothing to chance and plan on dismantling Miller in style to make my mark".
Miller, who is also undefeated after winning 23 of his 24 fights, was born in NY. "He is going into Miller's backyard".
"AJ has created an incredible "Lion's Den" atmosphere in the United Kingdom and we plan to bring that energy to NY, " said Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn.
Miller, who figures to be a huge underdog, insists he'll put on a show.
Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller certainly got under the skin of Anthony Joshua when they met last summer. will he try it again before June 1? There was a reason - he wanted this fight and he has got his wish.
"The World Heavyweight Championship at Madison Square Garden is unlike any setting in the World and we couldn't be more thrilled to host Anthony Joshua and Jarrell Miller", said Joel Fisher, Executive Vice President, MSG Marquee Events.
There is already speculation that Katie Taylor could feature on the undercard if she adds the WBO title to her WBA and IBF belts against Rose Volante of Brazil in Philadelphia on St Patrick's weekend.
"I will be defending my titles in NY". Miller is from Brooklyn.
Joshua's next fight was previously scheduled for April 13th at Wembley stadium for an attempted fight against Deontay Wilder, Dillian Whyte and even Tyson Fury but every single effort to make either of those fights failed in the end.
